The UK beauty market has taken off in the past few years, so it’s easy to neglect the fact that for centuries women have been using natural oils to benefit their diets, skin, hair and nails. The cosmetic benefits of oil in the summer months are endless, so we’ve compiled a list of the best products to maximise your summer look this year.
Argan oil is extracted from the argan tree, prevalent in Morocco. Moroccans use it with foods like pasta and cous cous, but it has been used for hundreds of years to treat skin disease, and to moisturise hair.
Simply Argan Oil can be bought on http://www.simplyarganoilshop.com for £9.50, and works by nourishing and moisturising your skin, containing no artificial colouring, preservatives or perfumes. It’s suggested use is on hair, skin and even nails.
Hask Argan Oil can be bought in Boots for only £3, and it is recommended to be used on both wet and dry hair to create a silky, smooth finish.
It’s pretty obvious where coconut oil is derived from, the breakthrough oil of 2016. It is capable of not only battling obesity with its health benefits, but also working as a brilliant hair mask, nourishing dry locks, moisturizing skin and even working as sun cream, protecting against 20% of the sun’s rays! If you reject the thought of sun cream in order to maximise your tan, then use coconut oil to enhance your colour as well as protecting from burn.
If you want to go even further with the health benefits of coconut oil, it can be used as mouthwash, as it kills some of the harmful bacteria in the mouth, improves dental health and reduces bad breath. (You may end up tasting and smelling of coconut though…)
It can be bought in Superdrug for only £2.49, or the trendy upcoming brand Vita Coco also sells it for a manageable £9.99.
Use it in pancake and smoothie recipes, as makeup remover, or for a post shower moisturise.
It’s summer, so naturally sunbathing is going to be a part of everyone’s upcoming months. If you have inherently dark skin, then to enhance your tan, the best solution is the gorgeous Hawaiian Tropic oil, which protects from the sun with Ultra UVA protection. Thanks to the likes of the Kardashians and fitness gurus like Jen Selter, a big booty has been all the rage for the past couple of years, and now that summer is here, it’s the perfect time to throw in some exercises to tone up! No equipment is necessary and you can do booty workouts from home, so no more excuses. Here are some of our favourite booty workouts which are guaranteed to burn, and are also guaranteed to make your bum look that much better in our unique and flattering Brazilian scrunch bottoms.
THE SQUAT JUMP
One of the most effective exercises that gets your heart rate up as well as targeting glutes is the squat jump. It’s as easy as it sounds, simply squat as low as you can and then propel yourself up into a jump, then go straight back to the squatting position. Do about 15 reps, it really feels good to burn and sweat at the same time!
THE HIP THRUST
This exercise has blown up recently, and is also known as “The Butt Lift”, something that can only be seen as a positive! Lie yourself down flat on your back, and just raise your glutes up and lie back down again. The trick is to squeeze your glutes when you lift them up as hard as possible, (I mean it, feel the burn!) and to hover on the ground instead of completely relaxing yourself when on the floor. Try doing 20 as they don’t burn as much as other exercises.
A classic for leg day. Position yourself on all fours, and keeping your core tight, raise one leg up as high as possible, and slowly pulse your foot toward the ceiling, squeezing your glutes! Return to the starting position to complete one rep and try and do three sets of 15 pulses on each side. Don’t be afraid to kick hard, they’re called donkey kicks for a reason.
This is one of Jen Selter (the booty queen of Instagram)’s favourites, and all you need is a chair. Just stand behind the chair and hold on to it, then lean forward slightly and lift your leg behind you, without locking your knee. Squeeze your glutes hard (again!), raising your leg as high as possible, then lower it back and do 10 reps per leg.
THE SQUAT PULSE
Back to the all-important, infamous squats. This is harder than a basic squat, but is guaranteed to make you wake up in pain, everyone’s favourite kind of pain! Stand with your legs parallel to your shoulders, and squat down as low as you can. Now rather than standing up, hold it and pulse. This hurts almost straight away but hold for at least 30 seconds and if you include this in your workouts regularly, you will definitely start to notice a difference in firmness, (even Jen says so!)

The perfect summer smoothie bowl!
Smoothie bowls have become a craze recently. They’re sweet, refreshing, healthy and taste absolutely delicious. There are so many different combinations to choose from, from the base of the bowl to the toppings so be sure to experiment!
Here is our absolute favourite recipe:
For the smoothie:
1 frozen banana
A handful of spinach (you won’t be able to taste this, it just adds extra goodness to the bowl)
A handful of blackberries and blueberries
For the toppings:
One teaspoon of chia seeds
One teaspoon of desiccated coconut
Three sliced strawberries
Half a sliced banana
Blend together the frozen banana, spinach and berries (you can choose any other fruit). The frozen banana creates a smooth, creamy texture. You may need to add some milk or water to help your blender, we like to add almond milk for extra creaminess but other milks, Greek and natural yogurt also work well!
When the smoothie has reached your desired consistency – it should be thicker than a smoothie, between that and ice cream is perfect – pour it into a bowl and arrange your toppings. For an Instagram worthy smoothie bowl, arrange them perfectly! If you don’t care, then just chuck them all on!
The chia seeds add a little crunch and are also a fantastic plant based source of fibre and protein whilst the coconut adds some healthy fats.
You can add nuts, peanut butter, cacao nibs – really anything you fancy! This is just our favourite recipe.
For a more tropical smoothie bowl, replace the berries in the smoothie with pineapple and melon and top with kiwi, mango and coconut. Absolute perfection!

Pool parties are a huge part of summer and with plenty coming up, we thought we’d share our top tips to achieve pool party perfection!
1. The outfit
Obviously this is the most important part! Whether you’re wearing a bikini or a one-piece, a pool party is the perfect opportunity to dress it up more than if you were just going to the beach. You can hardly go wrong with a big curly blow dry, especially if you’re off to Marbella but remember that it’s hot, so take a hair band and try to have your hair off your face to keep cooler. A curly half-up-half-down look is our favourite pool party hair.
It’s a party and you’re going to want to look your best, especially for when you post all of those #SasSeaSelfies on Instagram later on! Again though, remember that it’s hot and dripping foundation is never hugely attractive. Try a subtler look with a little mascara and some highlighter for that summer glow everyone is after!
